Grab your cape and join the fun! Aiden is an ordinary kid—loves costume play, watching clouds pass by, seeing castles in the sky… and he doesn’t like vegetables.
In the first book of the Veggie Chronicles series, The Prisoner of Carrot Castle, children discover that eating vegetables is what heroes do, that is, if they want to eat their way out of a wicked King’s clutches. Vivid colors, lively music, and fun interactive spots draw the reader in. Kids quickly become invested in Aiden’s dilemma as they help him along in his adventure.
Narrated by the author, Chris Pedersen, this interactive storybook for the iPad includes reader involvement in moving the story forward (tapping, sliding, tilting), animation, sound effects, stunning illustrations, music and games.
Behind the Book
Chris Pedersen demonstrates a life-long passion for holistic health and wellness, including emotional and mental health, which she desires to bring to a generation of children plagued by obesity, attention-deficit, bullying and more. She is a health encourager, entrepreneur and published author of children’s fiction and adult non-fiction.
Chris overcame her greatest challenge, genetic colon cancer, with her optimum wellness approach, which stresses eating plant-based foods. She blogs at Healthy Journey Cafe and is chief enthusiast at Purple Carrot Books the brand she has given her children’s books.
The Prisoner of Carrot Castle is the result of wanting to write a whimsical story that encourages kids to eat healthy.
Why Kids Love the Book
When Aiden gets stuck, kids play a role in helping him move ahead in his adventure. The story comes alive as the text is read. Kids giggle at the silly animations and sound effects as the action unfolds. Through creative storytelling, they learn that eating vegetables is good—it can actually help them. That’s why moms and dads love the book too.
